Universal Capacity Expander The TR-004 expansion device for 4 disks with hardware RAID and USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface allows you to expand the storage capacity of QNAP NAS, Mac, and PC. The TR-004 device can be used as a DAS (Direct Attached Storage), allowing you to simply connect it via USB to a PC or Mac. The TR-004 expansion device is equipped with four 3.5-inch SATA 3.5" / 2.5" drive bays or 2.5" SSDs, enabling multiple RAID configuration options. In one type of RAID, only one type of media can be used. Effective Capacity Expansion with RAID Support The TR-004 expansion device is the ideal solution for PCs and laptops that often lack the ability to increase the capacity of the installed hard drive or SSD. Using the expansion device with hardware RAID will not only allow you to back up data from your laptop or PC but also provide reliable storage for a much larger volume of data than the built-in drive can hold. Support for Various RAID Types The TR-004 expansion device supports several types of RAID configuration. Depending on your tasks, you can choose the operating mode between hardware and software-controlled RAID. Using the DIP switch located on the back of the unit, you can select modes such as Individual, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1/10, or RAID 5. You can also configure RAID with QNAP NAS or a computer using the External RAID Manager utility. Flexible Configuration and Management Compared to other types of RAID expansion devices, the TR-004 offers greater flexibility and manageability through software configuration. Users have access to RAID configuration, disk status monitoring using storage management utilities, and snapshots on QNAP NAS. Similar functionality is also available to users with a computer via the QNAP External RAID Manager utility. However, it is important to remember that when connecting the TR-004 device to QNAP NAS, it can operate either in expansion device mode or external storage mode.
